A Complete List of Books I Read in 2009
1. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - A pretty decent parable.
2. The Varieties of Scientific Experience by Carl Sagan - This book is a must read for anyone who likes to think about stuff.
3. Brief Encounters with Che Guevara by Ben Fountain - Wonderful book of short stories.
4. Liberation: Being the Adventures of the Slick Six After the Collapse of the United States of America by Brian Francis Slattery - A post-apacolypse novel with a sci-fi angle. Not my favorite, but a lot of other people liked it.
5. The Doors of Perception + Heaven and Hell by Aldous Huxley - Huxley’s trip journals. I really didn’t get much out of these.
6. Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates (Three Novels) - Read this after I saw the movie. Worth your while.
7. 13 Things That Don’t Make Sense by Michael Brooks - I enjoyed the sections on Dark Matter/Energy and The Pioneer Anomaly, but the other chapters were less compelling.
8. Columbine by Dave Cullen - A comprehensively researched book about the tragedy. Highly recommended.
9. Genesis by Bernard Beckett - Fun little novel about the future of human/robot evolution with a satisfying ‘Twilight Zone’ ending.
10. Everything Matters by Jr., Ron Currie - What if you knew the exact moment the world would end? That’s all I needed to know before I read this one.
11. I Drink for a Reason by David Cross - I don’t enjoy David Cross as much as I used to because I’m fuckin’ indie, bro’. It’s basically his jokes in book form.
12. Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist - See the movie and read the book. Both are extremely well done.
13. Atomised by Michel Houellebecq - Just finished this over the Xmas break. The first 2/3 was a little tiresome, but the last 1/3 made up for it.
